Asbestos Remediation Project

During a refacing project, a local university discovered asbestos while removing fireproofing that had been applied to the exterior of its buildings. HP EnviroVision was contracted to perform removal and cleanup of the asbestos.

Contaiment unit during the asbestos removalApproximately 5,500 square feet of structure fireproofing sprayed on the the exterior side of the horizontal beams located between the first and third floors around the exterior and on the structural beams at each floor and both stairwells. Both the precast vertical beams and horizontal columns had to be removed. The cement weighed 300 lbs and 500 lbs respectively, and a crane was used to remove them for treatment.

In all we removed the precast from 34 vertical columns from the ground up to and including the three floors. After these were removed a negative pressure mini-containment had to be built for each section to allow scraping of the fireproofing containing asbestos from the beams.

As part of this project we were also asked to perform asbestos abatement on approximately 105 square feet of boiler insulation from the basement boiler.
